Bobert-Rob

R.I.P., Spike

Posted by Bobert-Rob Sep. 15, 2009 @ 4:10 PM EDT

I'm not sure if I should be making this post, but I figured the fans might want to know. Do what I can to help keep you guys from making incorrect assumptions, y'know.

Spike passed on yesterday. He lived a full 9 years and I'm glad he was able to stick around so long. He didn't suffer and we were able to comfort him in his last moments here. He meant a lot to us, so it's great he was able to pass as well as he did.

I didn't really want to post anything about it here because I didn't want to confuse fans of the "Siblings" series. Many of you know it's based on reality, so I know a lot of you would be dumping your "OMG SPIKE IS DEAD, DUZ THAT MEAN HE AINT IN THE SHOW NO MORRRRREEEEE".

The truth is that "Siblings" Spike isn't going anywhere. The series is pretty much stuck in early 2007 as far as the family is concerned. I can't make them fast enough for it to keep up with real life, so I made that decision awhile back. Episode 7 is still going to be made, as well as other Spike episodes I had planned. I mean, Johny hasn't had his mop hair for half a year already, so obviously I'm not caring about updating character designs to reflect the current status of things. Honestly, what would be the point? The animations would become insanely inconsistent if I kept updating it like that.

I was originally planning on locking comments out, but apparently I didn't. So fuck it, it's staying unlocked. Just don't ask the obvious shit, okay? Please? Everything's explained in here, it just requires reading.

Take care, everyone. Appreciate what you got while you have it.

Sep. 16, 2009 | 2:20 AM Bobert-Rob responds:

Bone tumor, threatened to cripple him completely. As it was, he was limping like crazy and the tumor (on the inside of his leg) was the size of a fist. It would've been torture to force him to live any longer, so we let the vet do what they had to do.

Yeah... but he lived a good long while, so I'm glad he did. Gotta appreciate what you got, you know.

Sep. 17, 2009 | 3:04 PM zZSpongeFreak26Zz says:

Don't worry.Such is life. You go to the top of fame and shit and then you die.I bet he was a good dog.My dog's name is Spike too by the way :P.He is 4 years old.

Sep. 17, 2009 | 6:19 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

I'm not worried at all, but pain is still pain. Discounting it will achieve nothing. Time heals all wounds, but pain is the result of healing. Hence, it cannot be denied.

Sep. 17, 2009 | 4:29 PM turgan says:

Sorry, to hear that. I'm sure he was a great dog that will always be loved

Sep. 17, 2009 | 6:19 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

Yeah I know how you feel. I lost my dog too a long time ago... Now I have an Evil Parrot -___- I tried to kill it but failed

Sep. 17, 2009 | 6:36 PM Linkhasafan says:

OH NO SPIKE! Well that sucks, you don't post vlogs much so I can't say I knew your family changed so much. I will miss Spike quite a bit, he was one of my favorite characters. Hopefully this will be the last death in the Siblings family. Hopes and prayers from me to you :D Unless your atheist >_> <_<

Sep. 17, 2009 | 11:36 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

Death tends to just happen regardless of hopes. Life has been degrading in quality anyway, so whatever.

Sep. 17, 2009 | 7:01 PM Prodigal says:

Reading this just made me cry inside... I can tell you are devestated by the loss of your loyal companion. I honestly think you shouldn't continue with Spike in your "Siblings" animations if it breaks your heart apart too much to even poorly animate him. Anyways, I think we all know that he is in a place of no pain, no suffering, and all the ucking dog treats he could chew on :D

I still hope that Spike will hopefully live on... In your animations, and in our souls. He was probably the ideal "perfect dog" from the start, a dog anyone could love.

Anyways, I'm going to go off topic by asking what the new Siblings animation ill be about. You don't have to answer that if you don't want to :)

Oh and, because of you, I stopped using Vaan on FFXII, you manipulative bastard :D

See ya later,
-DjTyph

Sep. 17, 2009 | 11:37 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

I haven't worked on Siblings in awhile. I was going to work on it once the Telefrancais collab was done, but life keeps getting worse... it's draining what little energy I had left.

sometimes life is unbearably tragic. :'(

Sep. 18, 2009 | 11:26 AM Toribasher says:

Man, i know how you feel. My Dog died of old age just a few days ago :(

Sep. 18, 2009 | 12:58 PM aarnes says:

I forgot to add this on my previus comment: I hope you can keep your jokes still funny even thought you have lost someone close to you. I hope you wont add spike as a head character to any other video than: Memory of Spike. Becose that can be a little too much to take. DONT TOUCH THE SPIKE VIDEOS IN YOUTUBE! I wanna watch spike and the funny rock to remember and to try understand what type of dog Spike was (I cant really never learn by just watching some videos, but...). My dog is a Shetland sheep dog (mini-lassie)

Sep. 18, 2009 | 9:12 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

Well, Spike will still be as much of a character as he's ever been. To take him out would be to forget him, and I'd rather not do that. Also, this isn't the first death I've had to deal with, so I think I've done good about keeping the humor so far. By the way, he was a Rottweiler.

Sep. 18, 2009 | 5:57 PM zZSpongeFreak26Zz says:

Let me just tell you those things.

Firstly. You start getting the emo bullshit desease. This thing can even make you suicide.Your words remind me of LiveCorpse's.Just read the second thing i will write
Second. That's a quote from a video game called "The World Ends with you".The quote it "Give up On yourself and you give up on the world".That should cheer you up!

Sep. 18, 2009 | 9:16 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

I'm not saying a person should feel pain all the time, but you shouldn't bottle pain up either. Bottling it up just ensures that it'll explode later, and you could hurt someone if you're not careful. When pain comes, it's best to just let it out in the best way you can so it doesn't hurt anyone. Nothing "emo" about that at all.
And thanks, I've been keeping it together thus far. A lot more things have been getting worse, but I got my mentality in place to keep the depression from getting too bad.

Sep. 19, 2009 | 6:38 AM aarnes says:

sorry to get off topic, but is this your first serius post on newgrounds?

I know how painful it is to lose someone near to you :(

a few years before, two dogs that i knew died... their names were: Nöpö and Donna... they were very nice dogs... but they were VERY old... other one was about 10 (im not sure about their ages) and other one was 7 or something...

Sep. 19, 2009 | 2:40 PM Bobert-Rob responds:

I've made serious posts before. I try not to these days, though, as the serious stuff is typically no one's business but my own. This, though, I figured would be something fans would like to know, so I figured I'd go ahead and share.
And while it is painful, it's important to try to work through it so you don't suffer through it too long.

Sep. 20, 2009 | 3:47 PM Thicknavyrain says:

Sorry to hear it Rob. In a way though, I guess it's nice that his image exists not only in the minds of those who knew him personally, but Spike, even if he wasn't quite true to the real one, is known by the many hundreds who saw Dog Daze of Boredom and that is a very nice gesture for a very nice dog. He seemed like a very nice dog, I'm sure you've got lots of wonderful memories with him. Hope you feel better soon.

Sep. 20, 2009 | 3:52 PM I-fang says:

Sorry to read about it.
Best wishes for those close to spike.
Memoria in aeterna (In everlasting remembrance)

Sep. 20, 2009 | 6:46 PM Flashcard-Man says:

I'm sorry about Spike but I am glad that he did live a long and happy life, and he will continue to live on in our hearts and in the Siblings cartoons.

Sep. 21, 2009 | 7:59 PM AkumaFighter says:

I've lost a dog myself so I know what your going through, and even though you locked your post for September 20th i would like to say that I support your decision to put your animations on hold. Fist thing in you life should be your happiness right?... but in all seriousness you shared a part of your life with us and as you can tell many people are sad for you so until you decide you want to animate again it would be a great help for you to continue to post so we know how you doing, your a good person... best of luck man.

Sep. 23, 2009 | 6:18 PM dieordieo386 says:

Aw man. Spike seemed like the coolest dog ever. The poor guy. Dog Daze was my favorite Siblings episode. Hopefully stuff will look up eventually Rob. Some people just think your just some tool used for Flash animating, but to me your just a guy who inspires me try to find a job to go get some Flash. You have talent. But you have your own life and problems.

R.I.P Spike.

P.S. Thinking about getting another dog in later months?
