Dude I freakin Love mugen!

you can actually use flash to make your sprites, you could even use the objects and symbols from your previous flashes.

size the character appropriately and choose a bg color that doesn't interfere with your sprites pallete (like pink or bright green)
just position the character in each frame or draw new ones if needed (you could even use tweening for smoother movement)
then go through each individual frame
and just file, export, export image as a bitmap (make sure that the smoothing box ISN'T checked (that will keep your sprites from blurring)

do this for each frame needed for your character

just make sure they aren't too color-complicated otherwise this method doesn't work too well and requires alot of hand-editing.

it seems a bit weird but it's really helpful and sure beats making original sprites in MSpaint, which can be a real pain sometimes.

hopefully this made sense to you, I could probably make a detailed tutorial for you if you wanted to fully understand my method.

I'm actually doing that with Spike, the making of sprites within Flash. That's the reason Spike looks as good as he does (the image is a screenshot of him), I didn't suddenly become awesome at spriting.. So no, no tutorial, as I'm aware of this and am doing it already, heh. Of course, it involves much more than simply exporting, I had to create a new 256 color palette to use with each image and resize them, making sure the resizing didn't mess the graphics up. I still need to add shading, but I'll do that later. Not to mention having to convert them to .pcx files so they'll work properly. Complicated, but hopefully it'll be worth it.

Back in 2001, I used Paint Shop Pro, which is much better than MSpaint, but I still wasn't any good at making big sprites, so they look bad (the blue haired guy in the screenshot is an example of an old character of mine).

Rob, if you lack ideas for Johny why don't you ask him

or maybe he's too busy lvling up his this game sucks stat on runescape

Oh he has ideas, just none of them make sense. If I make him, he'll have some kind of guitar attack... um... hacky sack attack... and probably an attack involving the black hole thing I mentioned in episode 1. I just came up with that one actually, I should write it down. It'd be funny and obscure, I likes it. And one that involves him playing music on his stereo like in episode 2. Yes, yes indeed.

So the king of the portal plays M.U.G.E.N huh? haha dude Mr. Robert bob you are awesome....hmm if you are going to make siblings characters i would love to play them on my Mugen, sir you have my utmost respect! but y'know it kinda sucks that mugen dosent have online play, it sux donkey balls knowing you have to invite your friends over just to play an awesome game of mugen

..... so is there any specific group of fighters you choose to play with? (Street fighter, K.O.F, Guilty gear, Marvel?) or are you just in for the siblings creations? ether way it's great knowing SOME people know what mugen is...Oh and can i make a suggestion?

(SPIKE) before creating your characters try playing SF GG AND KOF fighters, their ability's are the best, for example take guilty gear characters they have something called "BURST" mode, it allows them to make a quick burst of energy and blast the enemy off from attacking you so much...im thinking spike should have this abillty.

(Rob ((YOU) DUH!)) i was thinking if you made a character based on yourself maybe he can have the street fighter 3rd strike counter ability's and just evade every damn move the enemy throws at you.

(Johnny) i thinking since johnny looks a bit smaller and faster why not give him the guilty gear air dash ability? it is VERY useful.

Haha lol sorry for the LOOOONG post i hope you still read it thou, good luck good sir, - NAPALMDEATH501

I just download characters that look interesting, honestly. My favorite kind are the random joke characters, like Omega Tiger Woods and Killer Whale. Not so much fun to play as, but they're a LOT of fun to pit against others in watch mode. In fact, watch mode is one of my favorite modes in that entire game. I can't have a controller plugged in when I play it since I lack enough USB ports, but soon I'll have enough... soon! Or something.

And I'm going for the easier things to script for my characters, and things that fit the characters personality. For instance, I'm giving Spike the ability to fly ala tail (like in episode 3) and hover above the top of the screen. Flying drains the power, obviously, so I made it so you can press a button and land on the enemy, causing damage. If I do other characters, they'll all have little 'modes' that will be specific to their personality.

For instance, I'm considering giving Johny a guitar mode, where he pulls out his guitar and uses it like an axe. Each attack does a lot of damage, but uses up power, and he puts it back up when he runs out of power. That sort of thing.

I wish I knew how to put characters on M.U.G.E.N.
